Florida football recruiting: Gators receive prediction for Zavier Mincey
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting is trending upward for another one of their priority defensive targets in the 2024 class.
After long being thought of as the favorite for Zavier Mincey, they’ve received their first official prediction to land the 4-star safety on 247 Sports.
Chris Nee, an FSU insider for 247 who’s 13/14 on 2024 predictions is the one who gave the Gators his confidence this morning.
If Florida is able to close out Mincey’s recruitment, he would be a massive addition to an already impressive defensive haul this cycle.
Florida football recruiting: Only getting the best of the best
Mincey, out of Daytona Beach, Florida, is one of the best safeties in the 2024 cycle. 247 has him ranked as the 5th-best safety in the class, while 247’s Composite Rankings have him as the 10th-best safety, the 22nd-best player out of Florida, and the 131st-overall prospect.
In a class currently ranked third in the country, sustaining a high standard for players that enter the class is important. Zay is exactly the kind of guy that the Gators want.
Florida has done a great job of making him a priority throughout his recruitment.
Mincey has made five total trips to Gainesville, including his official visit the weekend of June 9th. His five visits to The Swamp are three more than the next closest schools, which are FSU and Miami with two.
Zay has been trending toward Florida for a long time on On3, and the Gators currently have an 87.6% chance to land him per their RPM.
A 247 crystal ball generally carries a little more weight than an On3 prediction, at least at this point in Zay’s recruitment, so this is a great sign for the Gators.
Mincey is one of those guys that Billy Napier has been expected to land throughout the cycle, so while the Gators’ momentum isn’t a surprise, it’s still a positive sign for Florida.
