Florida football: Billy Napier flipped the script in less than 12 hours
By Will Thomas
Florida football had a rocky start to the day Saturday, when the news broke that QB commit Austin Simmons was flipping to Ole Miss, leaving the Gators without a QB in the ’23 cycle.
Add to that the recent whiffs and decommits on the trail, and people were starting to disregard and disrespect the Gators.
But Billy Napier took it personally and flipped the script in just a few hours.
He just showed the rest of the country that you can’t mess with the Gators anymore.
Florida football: And they don’t stop comin’ and they don’t stop comin’…
The Gators were on an absolute tear last night on the trail, landing three commitments in just a few hours, with a fourth looming, according to tons of committed players and current guys on the roster.
The commitments of Aaron Chiles, Amir Jackson, Amaris Williams, and Nasir Johnson lit a spark under the Gators and all of the fans, giving the whole program a lot of momentum as we continue through the summer.
Those four commitments moved the Gators all the way up to having the third-best class in the country, and a player average of 91.40 on On3.
And the vibes around all of this action is that Billy Napier and the Gators still may not be done just yet with a few more priority targets on campus.
Austin Simmons has just about become an afterthought in the matter of a few hours. Yes, the Gators lost out on a talented quarterback. But the decision by Simmons to decommit means that the Gators’ staff is all in on DJ Lagway being the QB of the future.
Being able to flip a switch and get four incredibly talented guys to commit to your team is a special ability that Napier and his staff have proven that they have.
