Florida football: What to expect from the SEC schedule release tonight
By Will Thomas
Florida football, like the rest of the SEC, will settle down in their living rooms tonight to see the 2024 SEC schedule release.
Now that the format for the conference has finally been decided for the first year that Oklahoma and Texas will be members, we have a rough idea of what this new era of SEC ball will look like.
Divisions are getting the axe, and each team will play eight conference games.
The schedule release will be tonight at 7 pm ET on the SEC Network.
So with all the possibilities, what can we expect to see tonight?
Florida football: Seeing some new faces and losing some old
With Texas and OU joining the conference, we all knew that the schedule would look a lot different as those two schools made their way around the SEC.
This morning, Peter Burns told us that each school will play either Texas or OU this fall, with the home field to be confirmed tonight on the show.
So before we even start that program that will probably drag on for way too long, we know that each school has an exciting and challenging new game.
As we wrote a bit ago, our prediction is that the Gators will play Oklahoma. Hopefully, they have to come to The Swamp.
So while it’s cool that the Gators will get at least one new opponent, they’ll also lose one of their traditional games.
There’s been lots of speculation about what game could get removed. Some think it’s Tennessee, others think Kentucky, while some say it’s the LSU game.
And to be honest, there are only a handful of people who have a real read on what the decision is, and I am not one of those people.
My guess though is that Florida and Kentucky won’t see each other in the fall of 2024.
The schedule release this evening will have a lot of people happy, a lot of people upset, and plenty of others with mixed feelings.
But it will officially set the scene for Florida football to start playing teams we don’t get to see that often, which is what makes college football the greatest sport in the world.
