Florida Baseball: Top five moments for Gators at College World Series
Florida Baseball CWS Moments: J.J. Schwarz preserves the National Title at home
In 2017, Florida navigated Regionals and Super Regionals to advance to Omaha with eyes locked on finally winning the national title.
Despite having to play TCU in a winner take all game to advance to the championship series, Florida baseball took on LSU in its third appearance in the championship series.
The Gators took the first game 4-3 to be one win away from winning it all. Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the 8th inning with runners on first and third, with LSU’s ace on the horizon if there was a game three, Kevin O’Sullivan turned to Jackson Kowar to close the game out.
Kowar induced a ground ball to second baseman J.J. Schwarz while the runner from LSU was screaming home.
Schwarz didn’t opt to try for the double play but instead threw home and got to out to keep Florida up 2-1. A flyball from the next batter got the Gators out of the inning, and a four-run bottom of the eight gave Florida all the insurance it needed to bring home the national title.
