Florida Baseball: Top five moments for Gators at College World Series
Florida Baseball CWS Moments: Preston Tucker rallies Gators into championship series
Florida baseball was in the driver’s seat in 2011 after waltzing through its Regional round and then knocking off Mississippi State in Super Regionals.
In Omaha, Florida won its first game against Texas 8-4 and its second game against Vanderbilt 3-1. Needing just one more win to advance to the championship series, Florida faced off once again against Vanderbilt and was up 4-1 heading into the seventh inning.
Things got away from the Gators that inning as Vanderbilt put two runs across to make it 4-3 and tied the game in the eighth inning at 4-4.
Not wanting to go to a do-or-die game, the Gators rallied in the bottom of the eighth and loaded the bases for Preston Tucker with one out.
Tucker singled to left field to bring home Daniel Pigott for the eventual winning run.
Making the moment even better in retrospect (and technically at the time as well) is that Florida had to get past future MLB pitcher Sonny Gray to collect the win.
