Florida football recruiting: Gators trending for DB making an OV this week
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting has hosted back-to-back big recruiting weekends, and they’re doing more of the same in a couple of days.
While this weekend doesn’t have all the stars that the other two had, there are still a bunch of talented players making the trip to Gainesville.
One of those guys making the trip is already trending toward the Gators and is an in-state athlete that Billy Napier and the Gators will likely be looking for a commitment from this weekend.
Teddy Foster, a two-way athlete out of Sarasota will be in The Swamp in a few days.
Florida football recruiting: Foster’s versatility is underrated
Teddy is a three-star prospect across every service, and On3’s Industry Ranking has him as the 679th-best player in the country, the 71st-best DB, and the 92nd-best player coming out of Florida.
But cut the tape. The player that I see deserves a little more respect than that.
Foster plays both sides of the ball for Cardinal Mooney and excels wherever he is. Defensively he totaled 38 tackles, nine pass breakups, and two interceptions. On offense, he racked up 17 catches for 242 yards and three touchdowns.
What impressed me the most when watching him was his natural ball skills. He has the ability to go up and over the opposing player to get after the ball, as well as track it effectively through the air.
If I had to guess, the knock on him by these recruiting services is his speed. He’s pretty quick on film and is able to get separation from DBs when he’s running routes, but he doesn’t appear to have the breakaway burst that the elite players in the ’24 class have.
But speed and quickness are things that can be improved on once he’s working with a college conditioning staff.
So don’t let the rating turn you off. Foster would be a good addition to the 2024 class, provide some depth to the secondary, and give the Gators a high-ceiling player for Corey Raymond to work with.
