Florida football recruiting: Gators trending for prospect who visited this weekend
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting is coming off of back-to-back big recruiting weekends, but those are yet to yield any commitments.
That cold streak may come to an end soon. The Gators are trending up for a big offensive tackle in the class of 2024 that was in Gainesville this past weekend.
We’re talking about Mike Williams, a three-star lineman out of Baltimore.
Now don’t click off just because I said three-star. Williams has a lot more to offer than your regular three-star.
For starters, Mike stands at 6’6”-320, which is crazy size for a kid still in high school. Using that size, he’s able to demolish any defender standing in his was and is almost impossible to get around.
With a prospect this size, the biggest concern is generally mobility, and Williams does need a little work on his agility and quickness before he’s able to contribute effectively in the SEC.
But despite not being as athletic as he could be, he still shows great ability to get to the second level and stay in front of linebackers.
Williams was formerly committed to Shane Beamer and South Carolina before dropping the Gamecocks a few weeks ago.
Now, after visiting Gainesville last weekend, Mike took to Twitter to tell us that he has an announcement planned at 5 pm Eastern time today.
So, Hail Florida Hail has him on commit watch.
A lot of insiders and experts have logged predictions that Williams will be a Gator over the last 24 hours, and my guess is that his announcement will confirm those predictions.
Williams, even though he isn’t a flashy prospect, will be a big get for the Gators as they try to regain some momentum on the recruiting trail.
Maybe Williams can be the first domino.
Keep up with Florida football recruiting at Hail Florida Hail.
