Florida football: What is the Gators’ ideal eight game schedule?

So this one is a weird one. On my own personal list keeping this game is a pretty high priority, but it’s unclear if the league sees it the same way.

In all of the projections over the last couple of months, this game is one that gets the axe in favor of other higher-priority or newer matchups.

But I’m not sure how you can take it off the schedule.

This rivalry has roots deep in the SEC. Who cares that the Gators have dominated it over the past 20 years? This is a game that everybody gets up for.

The heave to Cleve. The 4th and 14 from Grier to Callaway to seal the deal after a Tennessee missed field goal.

Jabar Gaffney 100% catching that ball no questions asked, don’t even worry about it.

And the other side, where the Vols got to break our 11-game win streak over them in front of their home fans. That’s what makes college football the best sport on the planet.

I wrote about it a little earlier, but the idea that this fall could be the last time that we know when we play Tennessee next is wild. They’re such an integral part of our season.

Are they on the rise right now and a tougher opponent? Sure. But you can’t expect to walk through the SEC without playing your fair share of tough teams.

And the matchup between Florida and Tennessee, when they’re both nationally relevant, is on another level.

Hopefully, the league lets this game stick around.
