Florida football has had a pretty traditional uniform set for a long time. Not that I’m complaining about it, they’re one of the most iconic unis in the country.

After debuting some new throwback uniforms in these past few years, Gator fans have been waiting around for some more new looks on the field.

And they’ll get one that’s been talked about for a while this fall.

In Florida’s game vs Arkansas on November 4th, the Gators will debut black uniforms as a part of their military appreciation initiative.

We don’t have actual rendering yet, but they could look something like this, and a game under the lights would make them awesome to look at.

So here’s why I say this is a great opportunity for Billy Napier and the Gators.

First off, kudos to Napier for hearing that fans have been clamoring about for years, as well as being able to tie it into something important.

But this is a great opportunity to show your players, recruits, and the country that Florida isn’t tied down in tradition while still being able to honor it.

On recruit visits, we see a lot of guys dressed up in helmet-jersey-pants combinations that the Gators haven’t used in games, no matter how cool they look.

So taking this step in the direction of new combinations and more modern looks is a good sign.

Plus, realistically, even if they don’t look as good as we hope they do, they can’t possibly be as bad as what Florida has run out in the past.

Even if a few of you don’t like it, the bottom line is that a willingness to change and adapt to the new culture around jerseys is a good thing.

You can’t be stuck in the past with the expectation to succeed in the future.
