Florida football has a tougher opening game than we’re used to seeing the Gators play in. After years of inviting cupcakes to The Swamp, we got a taste of opening week competition with the win over Utah last season.

Now we get to do it all again this year, but on the road this time. And this game feels a lot harder than last season’s.

Traveling across the country to go play a team that’s bent on revenge for last season. There have been better situations to walk into.

And while the Gators won’t lie down, they know they have to be nearly perfect if they want to go to Salt Lake City and pull off the upset.

Now we know that the sportsbooks agree as well.

The opening line has come out for Florida vs Utah, and as expected, the Utes are legit favorites.

The Gators open as +9.5-point underdogs, which is right around where a lot of people expected the number to be.

We all know that the expectations around this Gator team are pretty low heading into this season, knowing that Billy Napier is still working on rebuilding the program to its former glory.

And Utah is out looking to finish what they started last season. The Gators ended their playoff hopes in week one of last season.

They didn’t like that very much.

Knowing that the Utes will want to come out in their home opener and put on a show for their home crowd had a lot of pull in creating this line.

As I said when I previewed the Gators’ five toughest games for this season, if Florida keeps this to a one-possession game, there will be a good bit of positives to pull from the matchup.
