Florida football recruiting is starting to catch the eyes of recruits all across the country and is earning spots on finalist lists because of it.

Yesterday, the Gators made the top six schools for a 4-star EDGE out of Washington D.C.

We’re talking about Daniel “DD” Holmes, one of the top players coming out of D.C. and a well-respected EDGE across the industry.

Other schools that made the cut were FSU, Michigan, Maryland, South Carolina, and Rutgers.

Not every recruiting service is aligned on where DD should be ranked, but On3’s industry ranking has him as the 292nd-best player in the country, the 20th-best EDGE, and the second-best player coming out of D.C.

Standing at 6’6”-240, Holmes has plenty of room to add muscle and power before he gets to the next level. But that’s not to say he isn’t already storming his way into backfields now.

He is able to use his strength off the edge to push around offensive tackles and has the finesse to sneak by them if needed.

While it doesn’t look like he’s moving very fast on tape, he does cover ground quickly and is able to track down QBs rolling out in the pocket.

DD is also a very instinctive player, and reads offenses well, with the ability to defend option plays well from the outside which is a very valuable trait.

As of right now, On3 says the Gators only have a 1.7% chance to land DD, but those numbers aren’t yet updated with his top-six release.

Regardless of what On3 says, the Gators will have to start pressing him harder and getting DD on campus if he’s a guy that they want to go after.

With lots of priority targets along the DL that the Gators are focusing on, we’ll have a better sense of their interest in DD as summer goes along.
