As Florida football continues to lock down its class of 2024, offers for members of the class of 2025 continue to pop up.

Yesterday the Gators offered three-star prospect Chris McCorkle out of Sarasota, and we will look at the film to see if he’s one Gator Nation should be excited about.

Florida Football: A Corey Raymond target

McCorkle is a cornerback listed at 6’1″ and 175 pounds. Playing for Cardinal Mooney in Sarasota, he is currently a three-star prospect by On3 in the class of 2025, while none of the other services have him rated yet.

His film shows a very competent corner for a sophomore that made sure no one ever got past him, and he feasted on overthrows from opposing QBs.

He does well to recognize plays when in zone coverage and peels off his man to drive down into the flat to disrupt plays. McCorkle is also a respectable open-field tackler as needed.

Right now, a three-star rating feels right for McCorkle. His Hudl profile does boast a 4.6-second 40-yard dash, but until we see more, there isn’t anything on film that pops out as a four-star prospect.

One of the reasons for this is that McCorkle never actually enters a back peddle on film. When he does play softer coverage, he immediately flips his hips inside and runs backward. Visions of Patrick Toney defenses allowing underneath throws are still fresh in our minds.

But defensive back guru Corey Raymond has his sights on McCorkle, and if Raymond sees something, then we should all pay attention.

Right now, McCorkle has offers from Michigan State, West Virginia, Boston College, and Appalachian State, among others. Billy Napier and crew are the first SEC school to offer McCorkle.

As time progresses, we’ll see if the momentum for his services increases after his junior season.
