Florida football recruiting: Gators make the top five for nation’s best RB
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting isn’t shying away from going after the top players in the 2024 cycle, even if they aren’t the favorite in their recruitment.
And it looks like the Gators’ consistency is keeping them alive in the race for the top running back in the country.
Jerrick Gibson released his top five schools last night, and his hometown Gators made the cut.
The other schools on the list were Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, and Miami.
If Billy Napier and his staff can’t close on Gibson, he’ll be labeled as the one who got away in the 2024 class. (barring a big decommitment)
Gibson, originally from Gainesville, was committed to the Gators from July 2021 to February 2022.
He has since moved out of Gainesville and is now at IMG Academy, where he has had a great career and caught the eye of the country.
We at Hail Florida Hail really like Gibson’s game, and think he’s very similar to current Gator RB commit Chauncey Bowens.
We’re trying not to fall in love with him too much, however, because all things point to him being a Texas Longhorn.
On3’s prediction machine gives Texas a 94.3% chance to land him, while the Gators are in second place with a whopping 2% chance.
The Gators are so low on this list because they don’t have an official visit scheduled with Jerrick. This could be in part because he’s been to Gainesville eight times, which is twice as many as any other school.
But if a player has a real interest in coming to a school, he generally has an OV lined up.
I don’t want to rule the Gators out here, given the upgrade in recruiting we’ve seen with Napier and DJ Lagway, but they have a lot of ground to make up.
Keep up with Florida football recruiting at Hail Florida Hail.
