Florida Softball Letdowns: One more for old-time sake

Following the loss to FSU, Florida had one last chance to make a statement to the committee that they deserved to be a top 16 team and stay home for the Regional round.

The Gators survived a wild one in game one against Kentucky, with Pal Egan launching a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give Florida the 3-2 win.

Unfortunately, that favor was returned the following day. Florida and Kentucky entered the seventh inning tied at five, but Wallace hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-5.

After getting a ground out to start the bottom of the seventh, Kentucky hit a single, a double and loaded the bases with an intentional walk.

A wild pitch from Hightower tied the game, and a sacrifice fly on the very next pitch ended it.

Combined with Florida’s 1-0 loss the next day, it sealed the Gators’ fate to have to travel for the NCAA Regionals.
