Florida Softball Letdowns: Meltdown in Columbia

Coming into their series this season, Florida had defeated South Carolina in 15 of the previous 16 meetings between the two teams. South Carolina is better than they had been and did make the NCAA Tournament this season, but this should have been a series to get Florida going against a very beatable opponent.

While Florida fell behind early in the opening game, they came from behind and took a 10-6 lead after Sam Roe hit a bases-clearing triple.

Then the bottom of the sixth happened.

While South Carolina loaded the bases and did get a run home, Florida was one out away from getting out of the inning.

Rylee Trlicek then got a strikeout that would have ended the inning, except the ball got away on a passed ball, and the inning continued.

Florida couldn’t stop the bleeding, and South Carolina went on to take a 13-10 lead by the end of the inning and won the game by that score.
