Florida basketball is looking to officially land its first commitment in the 2024 cycle, and they have the opportunity to do just that tomorrow.

4-star PG Dedan Thomas is announcing his commitment tomorrow at noon, and the Gators are one of the schools in contention for his services.

Thomas has a top six he’s deciding from, the Gators, UCLA, UNLV, Houston, Arizona, and Gonzaga.

Dedan is from Las Vegas, so it won’t be easy to pull him from all those schools much closer to his hometown, but Golden and the Gators aren’t backing down.

247 is the highest on him as a PG, having him as the 3rd-best in the country at that position, but the whole industry agrees that he’s the best player coming out of Nevada.

Thomas doesn’t really have a glaring weakness on the offensive side of the ball.

He’s a reliable shooter from deep and is very good at penetrating the defense to get good looks at the basket for himself or make a crafty pass to a teammate in the paint.

He scored 22.8 points per game last season and dished out 5.1 assists, as well as grabbing 3.9 rebounds and swiping 1.2 steals per game.

One area he could work on a bit is his free throw shooting. He isn’t bad by any means, converting at an 81.4% rate, but you hope to have your point guard be a little more efficient.

Todd Golden and the Gators made an in-home visit with Thomas in March of this year, but On3 says they’re tied with Houston in 4th place as of now.

The leader is Arizona, with UNLV not too far behind.

While the Gators aren’t the favorite to land Dedan tomorrow, it’s hard to count them out given the work they did in the transfer portal this offseason.

Only time will tell where Dedan decides to play.
