Spring has sprung in the SEC, and teams have wrapped up their practice game season. Everyone will now retreat to the weight room before coming out of their caves in August for the 2023 college football season.

With the Spring transfer portal wrapping up as well, it’s time to evaluate the state of everyone in the SEC. For this list, we are including everyone’s ESPN FPI projections for 2023, the over/under win total Draft Kings recently put out, the 247 Sports ranking for each team’s transfer portal haul, and personal observations because we said so.

14. team. 887. . . . Commodores

SEC Power Rankings: Anchor still not lifted in Nashville

2022 Record: 5-7

2023 FPI Rating: -2.9

ESPN Win Projection: 4

Draft Kings Win Projection: 3.5

Best Recruiting Class Last Four Years: 32nd (2022)

Transfer Portal: 14th in SEC

Yes, the Florida Gators lost to Vanderbilt in 2022. So did Kentucky the week before; they seem to get a pass on that.

The reality is when looking at Vanderbilt on the aggregate, they were dead last in the SEC East in 2022 and were one of only three teams in the SEC to not qualify for a bowl game.

In fact, with a bowl berth on the line following their upset over Florida, the Commodores lost 56-0 to Tennessee.

They had a respectable recruiting class in 2022, but almost everything else from them has been hovering in the 50s. They also had the worst transfer class in the SEC during this recent cycle.

Vanderbilt will pop up and be scrappy here and there because that’s what they do, but it is hard to envision this roster being competitive week in and week out heading into 2023.
