If you follow Florida football on Twitter, you know that incoming QB DJ Lagway is very active on the app, trying to convince everyone else in the country to join him in Gainesville. One of the players he has tried very hard to convince his five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith out of Chaminade-Madonna Prep.

But there is a catch, Smith is committed to Ohio State and has been equally active in trying to convince people to join him in Columbus.

Yet, for someone that’s been committed to Ohio State since December, Smith keeps finding his way to Gainesville.

And he’s returning again in June.

Florida Football: Mr. Smith Goes to Gainesville

Corey Bender of On3 reported on Saturday that Smith had informed him that he would be taking an official visit to Gainesville in June. This report was then confirmed by 247 Sports, and what makes it even more notable is that his official visit will be the same weekend as Lagway’s.

If you aren’t familiar with Smith, he is the top-ranked wide receiver in the country by On3, 247, and Rivals. He’s a bonafide athlete that is ranked 12th in all of Florida, and the 2nd fastest junior, in the 400-meter hurdles.

Landing Smith would launch Florida’s 2024 class into the next dimension. They just landed Izaiah Williams and are favorites to land TJ Moore. Both of those are solid four-star receivers, but they aren’t Smith.

But we have seen this song and dance before, where athletes tease that they are interested in being a Florida Gator before ultimately taking their services elsewhere. Under Billy Napier, Florida seems to always be in the running for five-star talent but can’t seem actually to finish the deal.

So what makes this time different?

If you want to go down the rabbit hole of belief, Smith took four unofficial visits during the Spring: Florida, Ohio State, Miami, and FSU.

Florida is the only official visit he has scheduled as of this writing.

And as noted above, he made sure his visit timed up with when Lagway was going to be there. Lagway has been in his ear for months, while Ohio State just landed their 2024 QB, Air Norland, last month.

June 2 is the date of the visit. Smith’s words indicate his fully committed to Ohio State.

His actions are enough that should make Buckeye fans nervous.
