Florida Football Undrafted Free Agent: Trey Dean
We here at Hail Florida Hail were quite critical of Trey Dean during his time with Florida football. While he could deliver the boom, his coverage busts and flexing antics just never sat well with Gator Nation.
Like Torrence, he had a terrible 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine. He did reveal at Florida’s Pro Day he was recovering from hip surgery in the offseason, which impacted his time.
It didn’t impact his bench press as Dean not only beat out all the safeties at the Combine in the bench press, but he also beat out a number of defensive linemen, including Gervon Dexter.
He’s stepping into a crowded safety room in New York that features Chuck Clark, acquired via a trade, and Jordan Whitehead, who signed with New York as a free agent last year.
Behind them, it’s Will Parks, a long-time veteran, Tony Adams, a practice squad player in 2022, and Ashtyn Davis, a former third-round pick in 2020 that hasn’t lived up to his billing, partly due to injury.
Reading the tea leaves coming out of New York, Davis seems to be the one on the chopping block, and New York only brought in one other undrafted free agent for the position.
If Dean can make a splash on special teams and lay the boom once or twice during preseason, our money would go to Dean as the most likely undrafted Florida Gator to make an opening-day 53-man roster.
