Florida football recruiting: Gators in top-11 for No. 1 athlete in C/O 2024
By Will Thomas
As I think I’ve written 100 times, Florida football recruiting is dialing in on the top talent coming out of Texas in the 2024 cycle, and are in the running for some of its best players.
The Gators just made the top-11 list for the top athlete in the country, and a top-five player coming out of the Lone Star State.
I’m talking about Terry Bussey, one of the most electric players in the 2024 class coming out of Timpson, Texas.
Other schools that made the cut include in-state Texas, Texas A&M, and TCU, along with Alabama, LSU, Oregon, and others.
247 Sports has Bussey ranked as the 17th-best player in the country, the No. 1 athlete in the ’24 cycle, and the 4th-best player coming out of Texas.
Terry, as his rating implies, is one of the most athletic and fun to watch players in the nation.
Not even looking at the football field, his track times show us what he can do. He has a personal record of 10.66 in the 100m and a 23.15 in the 200m as a sophomore.
Now to get to his absolutely ridiculous stats from the 2022 season. Bussey, quite literally, did it all for Timpson.
Passing stats: 121/187, 2,177 yards, 26 touchdowns
Rushing stats: 184 carries, 2,596 yards, 46 touchdowns
Defensive stats: 115 tackles, 5 INT, 4 pick sixes
Special teams: One punt return TD, thee kick return TD
That was all in one season. That type of consistent production just doesn’t make sense.
Plus, the Gators could have a bit of an advantage here as DJ Lagway and Terry already have a bit of a connection.
The Gators are yet to get DJ any elite receivers in the ’24 class. What better place to start than the top athlete in the country from Lagway’s home state?
Landing an OV from Bussey is step one. Getting his signature is step two, and the one all Gator fans want.
