10 biggest Florida football NFL Draft busts of all time
Florida Football NFL Draft bust No. 4: Vernon Hargreaves
2016 Draft, Round 1, Pick 11
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 2016-2019
Houston Texans, 2019-2021
Cincinnati Bengals, 2021
Most Florida football fans remember Vernon Hargreaves as a shutdown corner during his three seasons in Gainesville. He had ten career interceptions in college and could normally be left on an island with zero issues.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted him 11th overall in the 2016 draft, and his rookie season was okay. He was credited with nine pass deflections, though he struggled at times in coverage.
He never progressed from there. After a hamstring injury in 2017, Hargreaves had a shoulder injury in the opening game of 2018 that knocked him out for the season. He played nine more games for Tampa Bay in 2019 before being released.
Houston picked him up, and he was a mainstay corner for them in 2020, but he was rereleased in 2021.
Cincinnati picked him up, and he did have a Super Bowl moment with them when he was penalized 15 yards for running onto the field despite being inactive for the game.
Hargreaves wasn’t retained by Cincinnati, and his NFL career ended.
