10 biggest Florida football NFL Draft busts of all time
Florida Football NFL Draft bust No. 5: Huey Richardson
1991 Draft, Round 1, Pick 15
Pittsburgh Steelers, 1991
New York Jets, 1992
If you haven’t picked up on it, we are ranking this list in descending order of when players were drafted. If we were ranking this list based on a player’s legit lack of production, Huey Richardson might top the list.
Richardson is third on the all-time sack list for Florida football, racking up 26.5 sacks during his time in Gainesville. His 12.5 sacks in 1989 are the second most ever in a single season for the Gators.
And it was that potential that led the Pittsburgh Steelers to draft him 15th overall in the 1991 draft. Playing for a defensive-minded guy like Chuck Noll and Bill Cower seemed like a good fit, but Richardson never found his footing in the steel city.
Pittsburgh traded Richardson after one season, and he only lasted one more season in the NFL before being cut by the New York Jets, ending his NFL career.
Richardson currently works in the financial sector in New York City.
