Florida football: Gators in contact with coveted UGA transfer
By Will Thomas
Florida football is looking to make a big splash in the transfer portal ahead of summer and is going after a former rival to get that done.
UGA transfer Bear Alexander, who’s been in the portal for almost a week, is one of the most highly sought transfers right now and is the highest-rated player in the portal rankings.
The Gators have made contact with Bear, as well as other elite schools like USC, Texas, Oregon, and others.
Bear has been an elite player since high school and would be a big addition to the Gators’ defensive line. Coming out of IMG Academy, 247 Sports Composite Rankings had him as the 50th-best player in the class of 2022, the 9th-best DL, and the 9th-best player out of Florida.
In his freshman season with Georgia, he was buried a bit on the depth chart but still finished the year with nine tackles and two sacks, including getting to Max Duggan in the National Championship.
Alexander is a huge presence in the trenches at 6’3”-305 and has the strength to push people around at will. It’s no wonder why so many teams want him out of the portal.
Bear is originally from Denton, Texas, so it may be hard to take him away from his home state Longhorns. He also reportedly is taking a visit to USC this weekend, and it’s rumored that the Trojans may be the favorite in his recruitment.
If Napier and the Gators are going to land Alexander, they’ll have to do a pretty good job to beat out the other schools vying for him.
Securing Bear would be huge for the Gators, and a sign that they can truly compete with anybody on both the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal.
Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
