Florida football recruiting continues to trend up for some of the best players in the country and just secured an official visit from a 5-star defender in the class of 2024.

The top player out of the state of Mississippi, Jamonta Waller, will make his way to campus on June 16th for his OV.

247 Sports has Waller ranked as the 22nd-best player in the country, the 5th-best EDGE in the class, and as I said before he’s the best player in Mississippi.

Waller was an absolute game-wrecker and put up ridiculous numbers in his junior season. He totaled 106 tackles, 24 TFL, 11.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.

He also broke up five passes and had an interception, showing his versatility.

While watching his film, my only thought was that he could be ranked even higher than he already is. He’s elite at using his hands to gain leverage on the offensive lineman and immediately gain the advantage.

Jamonta also has unreal elusiveness and speed. He can change direction lighting fast when the QB or RB moves in the backfield, and has a spin move that almost made me fall over while sitting on the couch.

His speed does come with a slightly smaller frame, at 6’2”-225. Being smaller than some of the opposing linemen hasn’t stopped him yet, but he has plenty of room to add muscle to his frame and increase his already impressive strength.

While it is hard to find a flaw in his play, he does need to add to his frame before he can be effective in college.

Billy Napier and the Gators already have a commitment from 5-star Xavier Filsaime, and have the chance to add a second 5-star if they can close on Waller.

If the Gators want to prove that they’re back to being a powerhouse on the trail, the recruitment of Jamonta is one they have to win.

Keep up with Florida football recruiting at Hail Florida Hail.
