Florida basketball: Tylor Perry could bring the Gators to the next level
By Will Thomas
Florida basketball has made plenty of noise in the transfer portal this offseason, already landing tons of talented guys looking for new schools.
EJ Jarvis, Micah Handlogten, and Walter Clayton Jr. have already pledged to come to Gainesville next season, leaving Todd Golden’s sole focus on last year’s C-USA player of the year.
Tylor Perry, a transfer guard from North Texas, is the next guy that Golden and the Gators will go after.
The Gators have already gotten Perry to visit Gainesville, and are among the schools contacting Perry the most. Some of those other teams are Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and others.
Perry is one of the top scorers in the transfer portal and could transform this Gators’ offense. Last season he scored 17.3 points per game, grabbed 3.4 rebounds, and dished out 2.1 assists per game.
He’s not just a good scorer, but an efficient one too. He shot 43.7% from the field, 41.3% from three, and 87.2% from the free throw line.
When the lights are bright, Perry is at his best. In the NIT, he scored 20+ in four of the Mean Green’s five games, including 20 points in the NIT final, leading North Texas to a win.
He sank the dagger to seal the tournament in what became his final game with the team.
The reason I say Perry could take the Gators to the next level is that he fills in perfectly with what Golden currently has. Clayton at point guard, Perry potentially at shooting guard, Riley Kugel at the three, EJ Jarvis at the four, and Micah Handlogten at the five.
That’s a pretty legit starting five that gives you a bit of everything.
Tylor’s skillset fits in flawlessly with what his partner, Walter Clayton Jr. can do, and they would instantly be one of the top backcourts in the SEC.
If Golden can close this one out, he’ll have quite the team next season.
Keep up with Florida basketball at Hail Florida Hail.
