Florida football recruiting has been trending up for the last few months, in large part thanks to DJ Lagway.

Whether it be his commitment to the Gators on its own, or how ambitious he’s been in recruiting other players to join him, Lagway has been a game changer for the Gators on the recruiting trail.

Earlier today, DJ teased that he might have another surprise in store for Florida fans.

While there’s no timeline for a commitment for the guy he’s talking to, he will be on campus this weekend, and Lagway will be in his ear the whole time.

He’s talking to Colin Simmons, a 5-star edge rusher out of Duncanville, Texas. Simmons has long been favored to go to LSU or a bigger Texas school, but we can no longer count the Gators out of anybody’s recruitment.

Lagway seems to be getting the Gators involved with a lot of prospects in Texas, a state they formerly didn’t have a huge presence in. Xavier Filsaime and Kobe Black are two big-time guys the Gators have a chance with.

Focusing on Simmons, swinging him to join the Gators’ class would be massive for Florida recruiting. 247 Sports Composite Rankings has Colin as the 3rd-best player in the country, the top edge rusher in his class, and the top player coming out of Texas.

This guy is a freak. In his junior season, he had 22.5 sacks.

Read that again. Twenty two and a half sacks.

Simmons is the type of minster on the D-line that the Gators want to have in their defense again. Austin Armstrong is bringing an aggressive, physical style of defense to Gainesville.

Colin would fit into that scheme perfectly. Hopefully, Napier and his staff can impress Simmons on his first visit to campus this weekend, and the Gators can make a run at the 5-star defender.
