Florida football recruiting is looking to make some serious noise in the 2024 class and end the cycle with a top 10, maybe top 5 class in the country.

In order to do that, they have to be able to expand their reach outside of just in-state talent and take some elite players from elsewhere in the country.

They got DJ Lagway out of Texas, and are now in the mix for a 5-star corner also from the Lone Star State.

Kobe Black, out of Waco, Texas, announced his top-11 schools yesterday, and the Gators made the cut.

Other notable schools in on Black are LSU, Ohio State, Bama, Oklahoma, and others.

247 Sports has Kobe ranked as the 15th-best player in the 2024 class, the 2nd-best corner, and the 2nd-best player coming out of Texas.

When you run through his film, it’s easy to see why he’s rated so highly, but there are some parts of his game you want to see improvement before he makes his way to the college ranks.

First of all, his athleticism is ridiculous. He’s a multi-sport athlete, also playing basketball and running track, and it shows.

Black has great recovery speed in the open field which he showed on both offense and defense during his junior season.

Defensively he made 36 tackles, had nine pass breakups, and brought two picks to the house. On offense, he had 34 carries for 337 yards and six touchdowns, as well as 19 catches for 305 yards and five touchdowns.

He can do it all, but one critique of his game is his tackling. Gabe Brooks of 247 Sports says that Kobe’s “Size and instincts suggest high tackling potential, but technique and consistency can improve.”

His point is proven in Black’s film as there are some plays where he doesn’t get low and tackles too high, rather than driving the ball carrier back.

Still, Black is one of the best players in the country, and a priority target for the Gators.

Florida already has DJ Lagway and is trending for Xavier Filsaime out of Texas. What’s one more guy to add to the list?
