Florida basketball: Visit scheduled for elite scorer Claudell Harris Jr.
By Will Thomas
Florida basketball is starting to lock in visit dates for multiple high-priority targets in the transfer portal, and now they have a mid-April visit scheduled for an elite scorer out of the Big South Conference.
Claudell Harris Jr., a junior guard from Charleston Southern will be on campus from April 14th to April 16th.
Harris was the leading scorer for the Buccaneers and was six points ahead of his nearest teammate. He put up 17.4 points per game, grabbed 3.9 rebounds, and passed out 2.3 assists per game.
All of Claudell’s shooting numbers increased from his freshman season. Last year he shot 46% from the field (up from 37%), 33.3% from three (up from 32.8%), and 78.6% from the free throw line (up from 75%).
Despite CSU being near the bottom of the Big South Conference, Harris was one of the best players and best scorers in the conference, and lead the Bucs to a win in the Big South Tournament before they lost in the quarterfinal to the eventual champion, UNC Asheville.
In their win, Harris showed his clutch gene, and that he can be trusted with the ball in his hands when it matters most.
Harris would be a great fit in Gainesville. He’s a good scorer who can take over an offense if needed, which he showed with back-to-back 30+ point games last season.
While we would like to see his assist/turnover ratio be a little better (1.15), he takes care of the ball and has a great handle.
With Walter Clayton Jr. still undecided, Harris is a major target for Golden and the Gators. Even if they do land Clayton, Claudell would be a great running mate for Walter and they would make a lethal backcourt.
Hopefully, the Gators can make a good impression during his visit, and lock him down for next season.
Keep up with Florida basketball at Hail Florida Hail.
