Florida football recruiting: Gators make top-12 for Jeremiah McClellan
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting knows no state boundaries as they put together their 2024 recruiting class, and just made the top-12 for a 4-star wideout in the heart of Big Ten country.
Jeremiah McClellan released his top twelve a few days ago, and the Gators made the cut.
Other schools on his list included Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Michigan, and others.
It’s safe to say that Napier has his work cut out for him if he wants to land the talented receiver.
247 Sports has McClellan ranked as the 142nd-best player in the country, the 24th-best receiver in the ’24 class, and the 5th-best player coming out of Missouri.
Jeremiah is a good-looking prospect with a lot of upside. He’s 6’0”-190 and is a great downfield threat despite not having the height of conventional jump ball guys.
What makes him so good downfield is his great ball skills and “ability to make contested catches”, per 247 Sports analyst Allen Trieu.
Jeremiah also has a background in track, which gives him a great burst when he’s running routes, and has great acceleration in the open field.
He isn’t a rocket by any means, with an 11.27 100m dash, but that speed is still plenty fast enough to separate from defenders and turn good plays into great plays.
This all shows in his film. He’s great at getting separation from defenders while he’s running routes, and his elusiveness allows him to take screen plays downfield.
Jeremiah is a willing blocker as well and isn’t afraid to get physical in the run game, a quality that Napier will love, and fits in with the Gator offense.
247 Sports says that Ohio State currently leads McClellan’s recruitment, which makes sense given their ability to recruit wideouts and being close to home. But with DJ Lagway committed, no recruit is off the table for Florida.
Jeremiah would be a big addition to the 2024 class.
