Florida basketball: St. Francis transfer Josh Cohen visiting this weekend
By Will Thomas
Florida basketball is getting another visit out of the transfer portal this weekend, and Golden has to try his best to not let him leave without committing.
St. Francis transfer Josh Cohen will be making his way to campus, and if you ask me, Cohen is the perfect guy for the Gators to replace Colin Castleton.
A lot of the country didn’t get to see Cohen play last season for the Red Flash. There aren’t a lot of eyes on the NEC, and his team didn’t make a run in March and missed out on the NCAA Tournament.
But Cohen may be the best-kept secret in college basketball.
Josh was top ten in the country in scoring last season with 21.8 points per game and shooting 58.5% from the field.
Along with all this scoring he grabbed 8.3 rebounds per game and blocked 0.9 shots per game.
So no, he isn’t near the defensive presence that Castleton was, and likely won’t make a huge leap to that level this season. But Cohen is a certified bucket-getter and would be a massive addition to the Gators.
Josh had two 40-point performances last season, including a 30-point game against a Miami team that made the Final Four.
At 6’10”-220, there just wasn’t anybody in the NEC who could guard him, and that number will stay small if he ends up in the SEC.
Cohen is also visiting Iowa this weekend and will make a stop at Penn State as well. These are the two biggest threats to Golden and the Gators in securing Cohen’s services.
With the departures of Jason Jitoboh and Colin Castleton, the Gators are in desperate need of a big man in the portal. And while he’s under the radar compared to some other names, Cohen would be an incredible addition to the Gators.
He could be the centerpiece of the offense next season and transform the team entirely.
We’ll see if Golden can get it done.
Keep up with Florida basketball at Hail Florida Hail.
