Florida football recruiting: Gators trending for top-5 safety
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting has been working to land elite talent coming out of Florida throughout the 2024 cycle and is now trending for a top five safety in the class, and a top-15 player in the state of Florida.
Corey Bender of On3 submitted a prediction this afternoon that Zavier Mincey would find his way into the Gators’ recruiting class.
247 Sports has Mincey ranked as the 88th-best player in the country, the 4th-best safety in the class, and the 15th-best player coming out of Florida.
Out of Daytona Beach, Florida, Mincey quickly became a priority target for the Gators who offered him in June of 2022.
Mincey’s pure athleticism is one of his best traits. Along with football he also plays basketball and participates in track events.
In hoops, during his sophomore year, he scored 7.9 points per game, grabbed 5.4 rebounds, and blocked 1.3 shots.
On the track he placed in Florida’s 3A state track meet, finishing 10th in the long jump and 11th in the high jump. He had personal bests in those two events of 21’10” in the long jump and 6’4” in the high jump.
That athleticism is on full display between the hashes and helps him crash toward the ball in the air and make a play.
Both the other big schools in Florida, FSU and Miami, have offers out to Zavier and are in on his recruitment. If Napier can beat out his in-state rivals for the elite safety, that would be a big win on the trail and create a lot of momentum.
Landing Zavier would also be a win over SEC schools like LSU, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. Keeping those names out of state and landing Florida talent for themselves is big for UF.
If Zavier decides to commit soon, and the Gators are the destination, the Gators’ class will get a big boost and gain even more momentum on the trail.
