Florida Baseball: Gators lead way for MLB Opening Day
Brady Singer
Singer was a crucial arm for Florida’s national title run in 2017. He was the starting pitcher for game one of the championship series against LSU, and finished 2017 with a 3.21 ERA with 121 strikeouts against just 32 walks.
In 2018 he was even better, posting a 2.55 ERA and receiving the Dick Howser Trophy.
Kansas City drafted singer with the 18th overall pick in 2018.
His pro career has been up and down. He debuted in the big leagues in 2020 and started 27 games in 2021, posting a 5-10 record with a 4.91 ERA.
He was optioned down to AAA during the 2022 season but is listed on Kansas City’s roster to begin the 2023 season.
Singer also made an appearance with Team USA in the WBC.
Dalton Guthrie
Guthrie was also a key cog of the 2017 national title squad. He hit .273 in 2017 with the Gators but was more renowned for his defensive play. Guthrie was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team in 2017.
Philadelphia drafted him in the 6th round in 2017, and he has since worked his way up through the minors. He made his Major League debut last September with Philadelphia.
He is on their active roster but did not play yesterday.
