Florida football: Filling out the rest of the room

Barring some horrible injury luck, the Gators don’t figure to use more than four running backs. But if they have to, they have some bodies that can fill in the gaps and contribute.

The first of these guys is fifth-year senior back Eddie Battle from Mcdonough, Georgia. Battle has the frame to be a wrecking ball capable of barrelling through defenses at 6’2”-211.

He’s gotten reps in two of his years at Gainesville in 2020 and 2022. In 2020 he got 16 carries for 60 yards with a long of 24. This past year he got two carries in Florida’s game against Eastern Washington where he racked up 32 yards, including one run of 26.

The final guy in the Gators’ running back room is sophomore Carlson Joseph. Joseph is out of Pompano Beach, Florida, and also got his only carries last season in Florida’s rout of Eastern Washington.

In that game, he got two carries and recorded five yards.

It isn’t expected that these guys have a lot of experience and plenty of stats, especially for Joseph who’s a redshirt sophomore.

But as I said, they’ll likely see the field only when the Gators are blowing out a buy-game at home.

With all the talent in this running back room, the Gators could have one of the top ground attacks in the country in 2023, and will certainly have a top RB room in the SEC.

Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
