Florida basketball’s season has come to an end, and for many Gator fans, its end isn’t a bad thing. Todd Golden’s first year was underwhelming, and the injury to Colin Castleton didn’t do much to help out.

But now, with all eyes on the offseason and improving the roster for next year’s campaign, there’s a sense of optimism and possibility around all college basketball teams who aren’t still dancing.

For the Gators, there’s a lot of work to do in the transfer portal. The biggest loss is Castleton, and with Jason Jitoboh entering the transfer portal, Golden will need to find a big guy or two out of the portal.

We may already know who one of his targets is.

Florida basketball: Eddie Lampkin could solve all size issues

Eddie Lampkin has played three years at TCU and is now in the transfer portal. He was battling a lower leg injury throughout the season but was still able to play in 24 games and start in 19 for the Horned Frogs.

This season he scored 6.3 points per game and grabbed 5.9 rebounds. He had the best game of his career against Arizona in last year’s tournament where he showed what he is capable of doing.

In that matchup, he scored 20 points and snagged 14 boards, almost carrying TCU to an upset win.

He hasn’t quite been the defensive presence that the Gators are losing in Castleton, but Lampkin would solve the current size issue that the Gators have.

Eddie is a large man, standing at 6’11”-263. That size would translate well in the SEC, and there wouldn’t be many bigs capable of outmuscling him down low.

Lampkin’s recruitment has already seen some curveballs. Early tonight news broke that he had committed to Georgetown, but Lampkin took to social media to tell us all that wasn’t true and he was still excited to go through the process.

It’s been confirmed that Florida has contacted Lampkin, and are likely working on getting him to campus for a visit. Landing Lampkin would be a big addition for Golden and the Gators and could help them build momentum in the portal.

Keep up with Florida basketball at Hail Florida Hail.
