What are the luckiest moments in Florida Gators history?
Jabar Gaffney catches the game-winning “touchdown”
Back before replay review was a thing, we just had to trust that officials on the field knew what they were doing. In 2000 against Tennessee, Florida was trailing 23-20 with under 20 seconds to play in regulation but had driven all the way down to Tennessee’s three-yard line.
On second down, Rex Grossman (who got robbed of a Heisman Trophy) fired a pass to the endzone to Jabar Gaffney. The ball hit Gaffney in the hands. Both hands in fact.
And he was standing in the endzone when Tennessee looked to jar the ball loose.
And we’re just going to say he had possession of the ball long enough for the official standing right on top of the play to be satisfied he had possession and a touchdown was awarded.
Florida won the game and there is nothing more to discuss.
