Florida football has already made some good headway in the 2024 recruiting cycle, with their best commit thus far being 5-star QB DJ Lagway out of Willis, Texas.

247 Sports’ Composite has Lagway as a top-20 player in the country, and the third-best QB in the 2024 cycle.

DJ may have improved his recruiting profile even more this weekend when he was in Dallas at an Under Armour Camp showcasing his arm.

Nick Harris of Rivals had lots of praise for Lagway’s performance on the field.

"“5-Star Gator QB commit DJ Lagway remained consistent throughout the day at UA Dallas Camp despite battling heavy crosswind…the Florida commit has perfected his ball placement from the short game all the way to the downfield game. Proved his status as a top national QB.”"

The important detail in there is the crosswind that he was throwing in. He could have easily said, “This is just a camp, I’m already committed, and the weather sucks. I don’t want to throw.”

But instead, he still showed up and threw the best balls of the weekend.

It’s also worth noting that Lagway has “perfected his ball placement” this early in his career. Walking onto campus knowing that you can already put the ball wherever you want is a big confidence boost, and will earn him a lot of early playing time.

Lagway could see a rankings boost if he keeps playing this well in front of recruiting analysts. Not that he has much room to rise, but hey, the top ten is still better than the top 20.

Not to mention that as UF’s best recruiter, Lagway was probably in the ear of a lot of other guys at the camp trying to pitch Gainesville to them. If he can bring some top receivers from Texas with him when he gets to campus, the 2024 class could totally transform Florida’s offense.

Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
