Florida football recruiting is trending up in a big way in the 2024 cycle, and now Napier and his staff are going after a Georgia decommit with family ties to Gainesville.

4-star RB Tovani Mizell de-committed from UGA a few days ago, and he’s already working on planning a trip to Gainesville.

The Gators may have a bit of an advantage in Tovani’s recruitment as well, as he’s the cousin of freshman wide receiver Aidan Mizell.

Mizell, who plays his high school ball at DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland, is a 4-star recruit on 247 Sports. He’s ranked as the 214th-best player in the country, and the 15th-best running back.

Tovani isn’t just a ground-and-pound type of back, he can do it all for an offense. In his sophomore season, he totaled 1,097 yards of total offense, with 616 on the ground and 481 receiving. He found the endzone 14 times.

Since his de-commitment, he’s been crystal balled to Oklahoma, the school he last visited before he cut ties with the Bulldogs.

The good news for the Gators when it comes to recruiting running backs is that their offense is a great place for good backs to thrive. We saw Trevor Etienne come in his freshman year and run all over the SEC, and Mizell could do the same.

Not to mention that Eugene will probably be in his cousin’s ear, pitching him on coming to UF for the rest of his recruitment.

Recruiting Mizell from up in Maryland could also be an effective way for the Gators to get their brand up North and start to recruit talent in other regions. Not that there’s any shortage of talent in the state of Florida.

Landing Mizell to go along with Chauncey Bowens would make a very good RB duo in the class of 2024.
