Blake Alderman of Swamp247 updated his crystal ball projections on four prospects that he believes are going to choose Florida football in the future:

  • Jarvis Boatwright
  • Kevin Levy
  • Kendall Jackson
  • Josiah Davis

All four are three-stars or below prospects by 247 Sports metrics, though Boatwright could be considered a four-star if you go by 247 Composite rankings and not their own individual metrics. Rivals, for example, has Boatwright as a top 300 prospect and a four-star.

We’re going to take a look at Boatwright’s film and metrics to see which side of the star-ledger he should fall on heading into the 2023 season.

Florida Football: On the edge

Boatwright is a safety that also plays running back for Clearwater High School. Listed at 6’1″ and 170 pounds, the first obvious knock against Boatwright is going to be his size if he is trying to play safety in the SEC. Kamari Wilson for example came out of high school listed at 200 pounds.

It’s also fair to ask about his speed given the only verified track time he has is from his freshman year when he ran 12.26 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

But his film tells the story of a willing and able open-field tackler that isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty. In his sophomore year, he played a lot of deep safety and had no issue coming downhill in pursuit of the ball carrier and delivering a blow that felt physical and imposing.

While he doesn’t have a full highlight package from his junior season, he does have clips posted from individual games. He played much closer to the line of scrimmage in 2022 and he was also a very productive kick returner. Boatwright still displayed a willingness to be physical and has good play recognition to take the correct angles.

Boatwright is a classic case of a three-star to four-star tweener. His film is really solid while his measurables will need to improve. If he can continue to add muscle and post some verifiable track times and/or laser-timed 40s, he would very easily be a four-star prospect.

Florida football and Billy Napier should keep him in the mix with the hope he can reach those measurable in the future.
