Florida football: Gervon Dexter impresses, solidifies draft stock at NFL Combine
By Will Thomas
Florida football is well represented at this year’s NFL Combine, with nine players invited to showcase their abilities in front of NFL scouts.
Today, the D-linemen got their workouts in, and former Gator Gervon Dexter put on a show, solidifying his draft stock. Gerv is currently projected to go in the 3rd round, and his performance today will keep him there or move him up to the first night of the draft.
One of the most impressive things Dexter did this afternoon was his 40-yard dash. His best time was 4.88, which was 5th in the field. But what makes that so impressive is that Dexter is 310 pounds.
310 pounds. Just making sure you didn’t miss it the first time.
To run that 40 at his size is incredible, and will open a lot of eyes in NFL front offices.
He was tied for 10th with his 10-yard split, which was 1.81 seconds. Despite his slow start, he still beat most of the other DLs running the 40, showing his max speed is even greater than his competition than the 40 suggests.
Dexter’s vertical jump came in at 31.00”, which was 3rd in the field behind Texas’ Moro Ojomo and Oklahoma’s Jaled Redmond.
Gerv was tied for 6th in the broad jump with a distance of 9’2”, tied with ASU’s Nest Silvera, a name some Gator fans may remember from his time at Miami.
Dexter slotted a 3-cone drill time of 7.50 seconds, which has him sitting at 5th in the field. The top time was 7.30 seconds by Oklahoma’s Jalen Redmond.
With a few drills left, including the bench press, Dexter has a chance to turn even more heads and showcase his strength as he throws 225 all around Indianapolis.
We’ll update his results here as they come out.
Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
