This afternoon, Florida women’s basketball was taking on the Kentucky Wildcats in the first round of the SEC Women’s Tournament.

The Gators were down by eight about midway through the second quarter, when tempers flared and a scuffle broke out that led to eight players being ejected from the game.

After a Kentucky basket, one of the Wildcats players, Ajae Petty, had the ball under the basket and seemed to push it up into the face of Tatyana Wyche of the Gators.

Wyche took exception to the move, clearly not thinking it was an accident, and threw the ball back at Petty as she was running down the court. The ball missed Petty, and a technical was assessed to Wyche immediately. But it didn’t end there.

Wyche kept marching down the court towards the Kentucky bench and eventually started running at Petty who had her back turned, clearly wanting a fight.

Benches cleared, and nobody was hurt or injured as things got hot. But eight players were thrown out of the game after a long delay.

It’s never a good look to be in a fight in any sporting event, especially not on day one of your conference tournament.

The Gators ended up dropping the game to Kentucky by a score of 72-57, ending the Gators’ time at the tournament.

Keep up with Florida women’s basketball at Hail Florida Hail.
