Florida Gators News: Swim sweeps SEC meet, KK Deans hits career high
When it comes to swimming in the SEC, the Florida Gators have been the bar on the men’s side for the past decade by which everyone else in the conference judges themselves by. So, the men winning the conference meet for the 11th straight season wasn’t a surprise.
However, the women’s team also winning the meet for the first time since 2009 made the Florida Gators the first squad since 2008 to win the SEC swimming and diving championship for both the men and women.
Among the highlights for Florida, Aleksas Savickas set a school record, along with a SEC record, in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 1:50.08. Adam Chaney bettered his own school record in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 44.18.
Chaney would also team up with Dillon Hillis, Joshua Liendo and Macguire McDuff in the 400 medley relay to set a school and SEC record of 2:59.22.
The men won the meet with 1488.5 points to beat runner-up Auburn’s 1089.5.
The women were led by Emma Weyant winning the 400 IM with a time of 4:01.18.
Florida Gators: KK Deans sets career high in loss
The women’s basketball team for the Florida Gators hasn’t been able to recapture the magic from last season that ended with an appearance in the NCAA tournament. Yesterday’s 90-79 loss to fifth ranked LSU drops Florida to 14-13 on the season and 3-11 in SEC play.
Compared to some previous efforts, the Gators did put up a fight against the Tigers. After entering halftime down 47-31, Florida responded by outscoring LSU 19-12 in the third quarter. Florida entered the fourth quarter down 59-50, but were unable to make any further dents.
In the loss, KK Deans set a career high in points with 30. Deans was 10-20 shooting from the field, 5-11 from three point range, and 5-6 from the free throw line. Deans also chipped in five assists.
Florida’s next game will be on Thursday against Alabama.
