As the Florida Gators continue their slide away from the NCAA Tournament, the margin for error for Florida basketball has been reduced to zero. While there are stats that continue to be a problem for Florida like assists per made basket or three-point shooting percentage, there are three key stats that Florida was doing well at that have all gone south during this three-game losing streak for Todd Golden.

Florida Basketball: Defend the arc

We noted prior to the game against Vanderbilt that Florida’s three point shooting defense had actually been solid all season long, but became a notable problem against Alabama.

Well Vanderbilt must have taken notes as the Commadores shot 52% from three against the Gators. As a result, Florida is surrendering three pointers to opponents on 47.1% of attempts over the last three games.

That rate is the 8th worst defensive rate in the country for every team’s last three games. Because teams now feel that they can shoot from three-point range and have success, it has caused another key stat for Florida basketball to tank.

Florida Basketball: Block party

At 5.8 blocks per game, the Florida Gators are 4th best in the country. In addition, Florida basketball has been averaging a block on 9.6% of opponents shot attempts, good for the 5th best rate in the country.

Over the last three games, this rate has dropped almost in half to getting a block on 5.7% of shot attempts.

That percentage falls in line with the national average and turns Florida from a menace in the paint into a team that gets blocks just enough to not be considered a problem.

Florida Basketball: Defense, defense

As a result of not defending the three-point line and not blocking shots, the Florida Gators defensive efficiency has tanked.

For the season, Florida is giving up 0.936 points per possession, a rate that is 39th best in the country.

Over the last three games, Florida is giving up 1.188 points per possession. That is the 18th worst defensive rate in the country when once again looking at every team’s last three games.
