Florida football: #1 receiver in the country will visit The Swamp in March
By Will Thomas
Florida football has already made some noise on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class, landing guys like DJ Lagway, Myles Graham, and others.
They’re not taking their foot off the gas either, and the Gators are pushing for some of the best players in the country.
In March, the #1 wide receiver and 5th best player in the class, Jeremiah Smith, will be visiting Gainesville.
Smith, a current Ohio State commit, is from Opa Locka, Florida, and is a priority in-state target for Billy Napier and the Gators. Billy has made it an emphasis to lock down the top talent from the state of Florida, and keeping Smith away from Columbus would be huge on that front.
Jeremiah, as his ranking implies, is a freakish wideout. He has great size at 6’3”-185, with room to put on some more mass in college.
He has the ability to make ridiculous catches look casual, and seems to always be open when he’s down field looking for the ball.
In years past, Smith is the kind of guy that Gator fans enjoyed being in on, but never really thought they were in the running to land him. I think that’s changed.
Napier has brought a different attitude to the trail at UF and doesn’t back down from anybody. More important than him and his staff, however, may be 5-star QB commit DJ Lagway.
We’ve already talked about how good of a recruiter Lagway has been, but he may be even more effective in the Gators’ pursuit of Jeremiah Smith.
Having an elite QB committed early on can help a school land elite talent across the board. It especially helps them recruit receivers who know they have a stud throwing them the ball during their whole career.
Lagway is a top-5 QB and a top-30 player in the class of 2024. That will be a big appeal to Smith during his visit to Gainesville, as it’s expected that Lagway will be on campus at the same time as Jeremiah to try and flip his commitment.
The Smith and Lagway combo would be deadly not just on the field, but also on the recruiting trial for the rest of the 2024 cycle.
Smith is a priority target for the Gators, and they need his commitment if they want to get back to national prominence soon.
Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
