Florida football has a few guys playing in this Super Bowl on both teams, guaranteeing that a Gator will be winning a Super Bowl ring tonight.

And one of them just left their mark on NFL history.

Former Gator receiver Kadarius Toney just caught a touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the Chiefs on top of the Eagles with a real chance at completing the comeback.

The play looked a lot like one of his scores back at UF when the Gators were playing in Knoxville, when he went in motion in the backfield, cut back to where he came from, and lost the defender to get into the endzone.

In college, Toney was famous for his explosiveness, quick cuts, and downright ridiculous athleticism. He did things on the field that just didn’t seem humanly possible just about every weekend.

His breakout year, as was the case for a lot of other Gators, was the 2020 season where the Gator offense was just about unstoppable.

He had 70 catches for 984 yards and 10 touchdowns, to go along with 19 rushes for 161 yards and a touchdown. Whenever he had the ball in his hands, you thought he might go all the way, and take a few defender’s ankles along with him.

When he first got to the NFL with the New York Giants, he struggled to make a huge impact. He had a ton of injuries and just couldn’t get consistent snaps with the Giants.

His move to Kansas City revived his career and is a perfect fit for Andy Reid’s offense. Toney is a gadget guy who you can put anywhere and plays the loose, fun, and quick style of football that the Chiefs like to run.

We can expect many more impact plays from Toney not only in this game but in years to come.

Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
