Florida basketball comes back home this afternoon to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores at 3:30 EST on the SEC Network.

After going through a tough four-game stretch with three games on the road, the Gators can expect a much easier game this afternoon against the 12-12 Commodores.

In desperate need of a win, the Gators need to simply focus on executing what they can do and playing good, consistent defense. Vandy doesn’t have the talent to shoot them out of their own building, or smother them defensively and force 20 turnovers.

The Gators have the upper hand here, and the books reflect that.

Florida basketball: Betting lines against Vanderbilt

Florida opened up as 8.5-point favorites, and that line has stayed the same as we approach tip-off. The Gators are receiving 65% of the bets, which isn’t surprising given that they have home-court advantage, and Vandy is coming off of an emotional home win over Tennessee.

This feels like a good spot to back the Gators to roll. They return home after a brutal loss to Alabama and get their first easy opponent in weeks. They’re desperate for a win to try and make the tournament, so they’ll be locked in and look to handle business this afternoon

The total for this game opened at 138.5 and is now down to 137 or 136.5 depending on where you look. This shows that a lot of people are riding with the under, and I think all of those people will be happy when this game ends.

In Gator home games, the under is 8-6, and 9-6 when the Gators are the favorite. Florida games have gone under 15 times in their 24 games.

I think this afternoon will be no different. Florida will be able to control the pace of the game, which be slow, deliberate, and focused on the paint. The Gators aren’t going to hit 15 threes to drive the total over.

Vandy going on the road, after two big wins at home, will likely slow down a bit this afternoon, and won’t have their A-game on offense.

Predictions:

Gators -8.5, under 137. Happy betting everybody.
