The Florida Gators return to the O-Dome tonight to take on the Missouri Tigers in another SEC showdown. The third-ranked Gators are once again favored over the 15th-ranked Tigers, but there are still plenty of subplots to discuss heading into tonight’s meet.

Florida Gators Gymnastics

When: Tonight at 6:45 PM

Where: Exactech Arena (Sold Out)

TV: SEC Network

The most notable event for the Florida Gators is that they were jumped by Michigan in the national rankings this week. Florida has consistently posted scores in the 197.800 range, but they have yet to reach to 198.000 mark.

Oklahoma, ranked 1st in the nation, has a season-high of 198.425, and Michigan jumped Florida after posting a 198.3000 last week.

Utah, ranked 4th, has also topped the 198.000 mark this season, so tonight will be as much against Missouri as it is a quest for Florida to hit 198.000.

For Florida to get there, look for the Gators to make strides in the vault. While not a “weak” point for Florida as they are ranked 5th in the nation in the event, it is their lowest rated even of the four. Last week Payton Richards and Trinity Thomas scored at least 9.900, but the other three scorers for the Gators were in the 9.800 range.

Of course, we view Florida through the lens of trying to win a national championship, so what will constitute a successful night will go beyond their ability to defeat Missouri. The Tigers do have some talent on their roster. Jocelyn Moore posted a 9.950 on vault last week and Helen Hu had a 9.950 on balance beam. But the overall depth of Florida should be too much for Missouri to keep up. Last week the Tigers posted a team score of 196.625 in a defeat against Kentucky.

With the meet being at home, look for Leanne Wong and Trinity Thomas to post another perfect 10. The difference between posting a 198.000 might come down to the floor exercise. The Florida Gators posted a season high 49.625 on the floor exercise three weeks ago and a season low 49.250 on the floor last week.
