Florida football has had its fair share of NFL stories and surprise stars, but perhaps none more significant than Kyle Trask.

From being a 2-star recruit out of high school, to an injury-prone backup, to a Heisman finalist.

Every Gator fan loves Trask and was excited to see him go to the NFL. While he’s been in the pros, he’s had the privilege of learning under the greatest of all time, Tom Brady. Brady’s presence made it so he just about never saw the field, but that may change next season.

Brady announced his retirement from the NFL this morning. And for now, this one seems more real than his fake retirement a year ago.

With two years in the pros under his belt and the pure talent that he has, it may be Trask’s team in Tampa next season.

The only other QB currently on the Buccaneer’s roster is Blaine Gabbert, who did get second-team reps over Trask this past season. But come on, is Tampa really going to ride with an old QB rather than get a start on their future?

Trask’s talent is undeniable, and with guys like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to throw to, he could have a great debut as a starter.

In 2020 with the Gators, Trask threw for 4,283 yards, 43 touchdowns, and eight picks with a 68.9% completion rate.

That was in the shortened season, mind you. Against exclusively SEC teams too. You give him 12 games that year with some easier opponents, and he’s hitting 5,000 passing yards, 50 touchdowns, and wins the Heisman.

With that type of talent and potential, how could you possibly overlook him and start Gabbert next season? It’s also possible that Tampa could dip into the free agency market for a QB, but they’re unlikely to spend big money on a starting-caliber guy.

If they make the right decision, Trask is the guy next year. And he won’t disappoint.

Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
