Florida Gators News: DJ Lagway getting other offers, track team is ranked
Recruiting is a never-ending cycle of players getting offered, committing, then still getting offers, and coaches having to continue to recruit players that already committed. So while the Florida Gators already have three commitments for the 2024 class, there will still be work to be done to fend off rivals from poaching them.
Five-star QB DJ Lagway posted on Twitter yesterday that he was offered by Kentucky.
Before anyone panics, this is standard practice for high school recruits to post offers they receive. There is not much indication that Lagway is looking to flip from the Florida Gators, but it’s a reminder that Billy Napier and crew can’t rest on their laurels.
Likewise, four-star commit Chauncey Bowens had the helicopter treatment from Kirby Smart yesterday, a clear sign that Smart values Bowens and wants to flip the Port St Lucie native.
Again, no sign yet that Bowens actually wants to flip.
Florida Gators track and field gets ranked
National rankings in track and field are a little bit weird because they are all computer driven and they tend to reward overall team depth rather than firepower up top, the latter of which is needed to win national championships.
The initial USTFCCCA rankings are out for the indoor track and field season and the Florida Gators are ranked 12th on the men’s side and 5th on the women’s.
The men are currently being led by Sean Dixon-Bodie in the triple jump and PJ Austin in the 60 meter dash. Dixon-Bodie is currently second in the country with a mark of 16.53 meters and Austin is 6th in the with a time of 6.59 seconds.
The women are led by Jasmine Moore’s national leading triple jump of 14.44 meters, along with Imogen Barret running 2:04.39 in the 800 meters to be ranked third in the nation and Talitha Diggs, a multi-event specialist, being ranked 4th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.14 seconds.
