Florida football: Gators making a run at current LSU commit
By Will Thomas
Florida football is expanding its reach to the commit list of their SEC foes as they work on building their 2024 recruiting class. They’ve already reached out to Arkansas commit Kavion Henderson, and now they’re going down to the Bayou for some skill players.
The Gators re-offered 4-star LSU commit Joseph Stone yesterday. They originally extended an offer in November 2021 but re-offered the talented pass catcher on Tuesday.
Stone is a 4-star wide receiver out of Fairburn, Georgia. 247 Sports has him ranked as the 109th overall player in the class of 2024, and the 22nd-best receiver in the class.
Joseph has good size for a receiver who’s still a year out of college. He’s currently listed at 5’11”-180 and uses every bit of his size on the field.
He’s great at going up and high-pointing the ball and doesn’t have any issues getting physical with a DB at the line of scrimmage. He doesn’t just play wideout either.
He’s gotten good reps out of the backfield as a running back. This has helped him improve his vision with the ball in his hands, and increased his already impressive physicality.
As Stone’s recruitment goes on and he continues to go to camps and get good film during his senior season, I expect him to rise up in the rankings.
Napier going after Stone shows more than just Stone’s talent. It shows that Billy isn’t afraid to go toe to toe with Florida’s rivals to land elite talent.
Granted, until he starts beating some of them, it may be hard to poach their recruits. But Keary Colbert has a great reputation as a receiver coach, and the history of great receivers at UF may help sway Joseph’s decision.
Snagging Stone from LSU would send a message to the whole SEC, and help Florida football build momentum on the trail.
Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
