Florida Gators News: Napier gets two from portal, Ethan White finds home
The transfer portal taketh away, but the transfer portal also giveth for the Florida Gators as yesterday Billy Napier secured the commitment of two new players out of the AAC.
Mannie Nunnery is a linebacker from Houston. A member of the class of 2019, Nunnery is listed at 6-2, 225 pounds. He wasn’t highly regarded coming out of high school as he was a three-star prospect ranked outside the top 1,000 players from the class of 2019, but he climbed his way up the Cougar depth chart and saw decent playing time this past season.
Nunnery was credited with 45 total tackles in 2022, 28 of them solo.

Nunnery will be joined in Gainesville with Tulane running back Cameron Carroll. Listed at 6-0, 225 pounds, Carroll had productive years in both 2020 and 2021. During the shortened season of 2020, Carroll still racked up 122 carries for 741 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had over 100 carries in 2021.
Carroll was injured for the 2022 season and missed out on Tulane winning the AAC title and beating Southern California in the Cotton Bowl.
Neither play figures to be a starter for the Florida Gators in 2023 as Nunnery is the third linebacker Napier has brought in out of the transfer portal and Carroll will probably be stuck behind Montrell Johnson and Trevor Ettienne.
But the Gators are in desperate need of depth across the board and both players will provide that should the need arise.
Florida Gators: California dreaming
Speaking of Southern California, Ethan White announced yesterday that he would be joining up with Michael Tarquin and Lincoln Riley to become a Trojan for 2023.
White was a mainstay starter for the Florida Gators at guard and it was a bit of a surprise when he entered his name into the transfer portal after the season was over. Given how long it was taking White to announce a new home, combined with the injury to Kamryn Waites, there was some intrigue as to whether or not White would stay in the portal or come back to Gainesville.
The intrigue is over.
